This gown was worn by Daenerys Targaryen in Season 4, Episode 7 (Mockingbird) of Game of Thrones.

This gown makes extensive use of the dragonscale textile that Michele Carragher, the head embroider on Game of Thrones, developed for Daenerys’ costumes. Here’s a tutorial that Ms. Carragher made to show how she creates the dragonscale textile.

Fabric love

 • I'm going to the fabric store today.
There is something about fabric shopping that's good for the soul.. all the colours in the world from soft pastel whispers to vibrant and energetic statements. Anyone one of those found in soft mattes, silken pearls, slick and glossy reflections or bright glitter and sparkle.
If you put your hand out and let the tips of your figure slide across all the different fabrics as you walk by, it's almost like it tells a story. Soft furs speak of a comforting prelude.
The introduction of characters glide by in the starched cotton of a strict parent, the wild texture in a weave that is an arrogant teenager and the soft seductive call of velvet who is the mysterious love that calls them away.
The languid flow of silk describes their love and passion. The explosive texture of beaded brocades describes their flares of temper. The creepy feel of a cheap poly blend, so terrible it makes you pull your fingers away and wipe them on your coat just to remove the feel from your nerves and your memory, tells of a horrible tragedy that rocks the foundation of their existence.
Comfort and healing comes in the form of flannel and the end of our story is all wrapped up in a strip of each fabric bound together by the smooth threads of memory and imagination.
Every time I go there is something new to see, more textures to feel and different stories to be told.
For me, it's almost like to vault of my imagination, where all my thoughts and ideas lay dormant until something sparks and they all tumble together into my mind and out of my fingers as I measure, cut, fold and sew...
I love fabric shopping.
